Sarah Foley
Tutor / Reading Specialist
Sarah has been working as a K-8 educator for the last 20 years. She has worked as a classroom teacher, reading and math intervention teacher, and an instructional coach. She holds a teaching credential from UC Davis, a Reading Specialist Credential and an M. A. in Language Development and Literacy from Sacramento State University as well as a Gifted and Talented Education certificate, and an Administrative Authorization. She has training in the Wilson Reading System, as well as Lindamood Bell programs, which are deeply rooted in Orton-Gillingham principles, and are ideal to support individuals struggling to learn to read. She has an extensive knowledge of how students learn math. Beyond curriculum, Sarah uses her knowledge of math progressions and how students move from a concrete to an abstract understanding of math. This gives her the ability to pinpoint roadblocks to learning and address them. She also understands the specialized language of math and how to approach teaching it to students. Sarah loves working with students— helping them learn and find their own personal path to success. Sarah graduated with a degree in Japanese Studies, worked in high-tech including software start-ups and Genentech, and was a stay-at-home mom before entering the teaching profession. In her spare time she is an avid reader of mysteries, a baseball and soccer fan, and enjoys spending time with her family and her dog Jonesy.
